Manchester, 26 October 2011 - With the evolving media landscape changing the way everyone communicates, what’s the role of PR professionals today and tomorrow? Who is and will be in control of the messages and mediums? Are we now at war with customers and consumers?
This unique PRCA (Public Relations Consultancy Association) debate will take place at the Imperial War Museum, North, to debate this hot topic. The event, for senior North West PR and communications professionals only, brings together a line-up of top speakers from PR, media and the blogosphere:
- Claire Donnelly - Radio 5 Live broadcaster and national columnist
- John Greenway, Press Office Manager - Manchester Airport
- Amanda Coleman, Corporate Communications Director - Greater Manchester Police
- Dom Bradbury - Angry Britain – leading national consumer affairs blogger
This will be followed by an interactive open debate with opinions and Q&As from the floor – and beyond, broadcast via #CommsChat on Twitter.
“This is going to be interesting!” said Sandy Lindsay, Group MD, Tangerine PR and North West Chairman of the PRCA. “We’re expecting challenging pitches from our speakers, followed by a high level of audience debate among some of the leading PR practitioners in the region- in-house and consultancy. I’m sure there’ll be controversy, but also some valuable ‘state of the nation’ shared views and insights.”
Francis Ingham, CEO of the PRCA agrees: “Debates like this are crucial to shaping our thinking. The comms landscape is in a state of flux. Traditional structures, principles, channels, theories are all being adopted, challenged and thrown out. Our role as the guardians of reputation and as marketers has never been more important or challenging.
The event will conclude with a light buffet and the opportunity to network with other PR professionals from agencies and in-house teams across the region.

About the PRCA
Who we are: Founded in 1969, the PRCA is the professional body that represents UK PR consultancies, in-house communications teams, PR freelancers and individuals. The PRCA promotes all aspects of public relations and internal communications work, helping teams and individuals maximise the value they deliver to clients and organisations.
What we do: The Association exists to raise standards in PR and communications, providing members with industry data, facilitating the sharing of communications best practice and creating networking opportunities.
How we do it and make a difference: All PRCA members are bound by a professional charter and codes of conduct, and benefit from exceptional training. The Association also works for the greater benefit of the industry, sharing best practice and lobbying on the industry's behalf e.g. fighting the NLA's digital licence.
Who we represent: The PRCA represents many of the major consultancies in the UK, and currently has more than 250 agency members from around the world including the majority of the top 100 UK consultancies. We also represent around 70 in-house communications teams from multinationals, UK charities and leading UK public sector organisations.
