PRCA supports Select Committee Chair's call to Government to act on lobbying
The PRCA has supported calls from Graham Allen MP, Chair of the Political and Constitutional Reform Committee (PCRC), for the Government to act on the Committee’s recommendations for a Statutory Register of Lobbyists. The Committee’s recommendations, which were informed by written and oral evidence provided by the PRCA last year, urged the Government to go further than its proposals to only include third-party consultancies.
Francis Ingham, PRCA Director General, said: “The Committee’s recommendations were correct to point out that the Government’s proposals would do little to improve transparency without including in-house lobbyists. But this point was made in July 2012, and even earlier by the PRCA and the wider lobbying industry during the consultation period.
“Since then we have heard nothing from the Government, which is running out of time to fulfil its commitment to a White Paper and Draft Legislation in this Parliamentary Session. The Cabinet Office must urgently come clean about its plans for the lobbying register.”
