Brighton & Hove agency joins PRCA
PRESS RELEASE
London, 27 July 2010 - The newly launched PR agency from Brighton & Hove council has joined the PRCA as its first act since the announcement. Brighton & Hove is the third council to develop its PR team into a consultancy. All three are now PRCA members.
At a time when the public sector is facing dramatic cuts, the bold move shows the council's confidence in the team's ability not only to be self sustaining, but to be able to support other public sector bodies who find their budgets under pressure. Brighton & Hove have been particularly innovative in engaging with the local community through social media and have also developed impressive evaluation techniques to demonstrate the effectiveness of their work.
John Shewell, Brighton & Hove head of comms, explained “We have long run ourselves as an agency in many ways. Everything ties back to value, to results and to value for our client - the taxpayer. Column inches aren't the goal, it's behavioural change. We want to continue to innovate and lead, helping others to raise the bar along with us. The PRCA's ethos of sharing, its networking opportunities and management tools will be an invaluable support.”
Francis Ingham, PRCA chief executive said “John and Brighton & Hove are an exciting team. They, along with a number of other progressive teams, will continue to change the way public sector communications is delivered. We are delighted to have them on board and to help them share ideas that will provide tax payers with better value for money.”

About the PRCA
Who we are:
Founded in 1969, the PRCA is the professional body that represents UK PR consultancies, in-house communications teams and PR freelancers. The PRCA promotes all aspects of public relations and internal communications work, helping teams and individuals maximise the value they deliver to clients and organisations.
What we do:
The Association exists to raise standards in PR and communications, providing members with industry data, facilitating the sharing of communications best practice and creating networking opportunities.
How we do it and make a difference:
All PRCA members are bound by a professional charter and codes of conduct, and benefit from exceptional training. The Association also works for the greater benefit of the industry, sharing best practice and lobbying on the industry's behalf e.g. fighting the NLA's digital licence.
Who we represent:
The PRCA represents many of the major consultancies in the UK, and currently has 197 agency members from around the world including the majority of the top 100 UK consultancies. Having launched in-house membership last year it also represents 31 in-house teams including many of Europe's leading corporations and UK public sector organisations.
