The Mashable Media Summit 2011, held in New York, was a classy affair from start to finish with an unusually well-groomed audience for a largely social media event, plus top class speakers on stage, from The New York Times, Esquire, The Washington Post, Facebook , Foursquare, Reuters, Time, Inc. and TVGuide.com, among others.
I was attending the conference in my role as Director of Digital Innovation at Citizen Brando, so for me one of the most anticipated parts of the conference was perhaps Mashable founder Pete Cashmore’s current trend tips, to see if there would be any surprises. They are shared below:
1. News aggregation apps, such as Zite and Flipboard
2. Magazine apps
3. Kindle Fire leading the charge for further competitiors to the Ipad
4. Social gestures, which is closely connected with frictionless sharing
5. TV everywhere and the proliferation of “second-screen experiences”
He also considered what may be hot in 2012, speeding the audience through: in-car apps, to flexible displays and Apple iTV, to location based news and near field communications.
The surprise conference announcement was that Mashable was launching the Mashable Publisher Platform, a new editorially curated syndication experience that brings content from select publishers to the site. The first articles will be from AppAdvice, Causecast, ClickZ, GeekSugar, International Journalists’ Network, paidContent, Pocketnow, PSFK and UX Magazine.
