PR Apprentice

SALARY: £12k to £15k depending on experience

If you’re keen to pursue a career in public relations but don’t want to incur the costs involved in going to university, then you may be interested in the new Government supported PR Higher Apprenticeship Scheme which is recruiting for a trainee at award winning Twickenham based PR agency Mustard Communications.

You will be part of a small, friendly team, providing support across a range of food and drink accounts, benefiting from both on the job training as well as a one day a week fully funded programme of study to provide you with the skills, experience and knowledge required for a successful career in PR.

You will need to possess three good grade A levels, or equivalent, including English and have excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills.  You will also need to have a keen interest in the media landscape as well as being a budding ‘foodie.’

The agency provides strategic and creative PR support to a number of the country’s leading food and drink companies, running generic healthy eating campaigns for  watercress, carrots and broccoli as well as branded campaigns for soft drinks producer Belvoir Fruit Farms, Bannisters’ Farm jacket potatoes, Crantock’s Cornish pasties and Beechdean ice cream, just to name a few.  

Specific duties for the PR Apprentice/trainee account executive role include:
o    Setting up competitions and organising prize fulfillment
o    Social and digital media
o    Maintaining media database and press release distribution
o    Monitoring press coverage and compiling media evaluation reports
o    Media relations and helping to develop positive relationships with journalists
o    Writing  press releases and feature copy
o    Carrying out research and helping to develop PR proposals
o    Dealing with administrative tasks
o    Assisting in the organisation of press events

The BTEC Diploma in Public Relations, which will run for 12-18 months, will be delivered by Pearson in Practice via training sessions, assessments in the workplace, webinars and self directed learning. Full details on this qualification will be available to you at interview stage.
