Summary:

The recent PRCA Census revealed some worrying ongoing trends when it comes to differences in gender in the PR industry, mainly that the gender pay gap still continues and more men hold senior positions than women. Specifically the data showed:

- Men earn an average of £9,000 more than women
- Where employees received a bonus, men received an average of nearly £6,000 while women received nearly £4,000
- In agencies, women outnumbered men by three to one among the junior ranks, but two-thirds of board directors or partners remained men
In 2016, this is just not acceptable. However, a survey can only tell so much, what are the real issues when it comes to the gender differences in PR. Do men really have a greater chance to reach the more senior positions than women? Are women holding themselves back through lack of confidence? Are men really still more likely to ask for a pay rise than women?
