PRCA supports Taylor Bennett Foundation Internship Scheme with PR Training

London, Wednesday 16 March 2011 - The PRCA has strengthened its commitment to increasing diversity in the PR industry by donating, so far, in excess of £5,000 worth of PR Training to the Taylor Bennett Internship scheme.

The PRCA supported the programme, which sees a number of gifted graduates from ethnic minority backgrounds undertake a 10 week communications and personal development course, by offering the students places on a range of courses from ‘Good Media Relations' to ‘Planning a strategic PR Campaign'. It intends the commitment to be a long-term one. The interns attended their first course this week.

Francis Ingham, PRCA chief executive, said:
“Our relationship with Taylor Bennett is another important step to making our industry more accessible to people who might not otherwise consider PR as a career. Along with initiatives such as the PRCA Access Commission, which held its first meeting last week, we will continue to dismantle the real and perceived barriers around careers in the PR industry.

An industry that is truly representative of our society will be more creative, innovative and better able to communicate with the world around us. That is why we are delighted to be giving Taylor Bennett Foundation interns the opportunity to access PRCA training for free. We hope that this programme will encourage more people to consider a career in Public Relations. It's a very concrete demonstration of putting our money where our mouth is, and I'd encourage other training providers to do the same.”

Sarah Stimson, Course Director of Taylor Bennett Foundation, said:
"We are absolutely delighted that the PRCA has made this donation.  It is only through the continued support and commitment from our partners that we can continue to provide this unique training opportunity."

About the Taylor Bennett Foundation - www.taylorbennettfoundation.org
Since 2008, Taylor Bennett has been seeking directly to address the need for greater diversity in the communications & PR industry. We have done this through the delivery of a 10 week communications and personal development training programme for black and minority ethnic graduates, specifically designed to strengthen their skills and provide them with a practical understanding of what an entry level communications role would entail.  We have been fortunate to work closely with universities, agencies, in-house communications teams and media owners, and together we are equipping talented individuals with the necessary skills to launch their communications careers. In November 2010 we were thrilled to be awarded the prestigious Lord Mayor's Dragon Award for our work tackling social exclusion.

Companies wishing to support the Foundation can do so by hosting an intern visit at your offices, participating as a guest speaker, making a donation, becoming a mentor or offering work experience. Companies interested in being involved should contact Sarah Stimson on 07739 426358 or sarah@taylorbennettfoundation.org

About the PRCA:
Who we are:

Founded in 1969, the PRCA is the professional body that represents UK PR consultancies, in-house communications teams and PR freelancers.  The PRCA promotes all aspects of public relations and internal communications work, helping teams and individuals maximise the value they deliver to clients and organisations.

What we do:
The Association exists to raise standards in PR and communications, providing members with industry data, facilitating the sharing of communications best practice and creating networking opportunities.

How we do it and make a difference:
All PRCA members are bound by a professional charter and codes of conduct, and benefit from exceptional training. The Association also works for the greater benefit of the industry, sharing best practice and lobbying on the industry's behalf e.g. fighting the NLA's digital licence.

Who we represent:
The PRCA represents many of the major consultancies in the UK, and currently has more than 230 agency members from around the world including the majority of the top 100 UK consultancies. We also represent around 60 in-house communications teams from multinationals, UK charities and leading UK public sector organisations.
