Event Overview

For the first time this year, PRCA asked respondents of its PR and Communications Census 2019 about their mental wellbeing and we found that 32% of respondents said that they had been diagnosed with, or had suffered from, mental ill health. This led us to launch our first mental health survey of our PR and communications sector in May and a number of industry events like this.

As you may appreciate, the workplace is one of the key areas where people face stigma and discrimination, so we want to change our workplace culture around mental health so people feel confident enough to speak about how they are feeling and can ask for help if they need it, without the fear that they will be stigmatised and discriminated against.

This session will provide the opportunity to explore various approaches to mental wellbeing, by hearing from See Me volunteer, Michael Byrnes about his experiences of mental health stigma and discrimination in the workplace, and from the See Me team about the steps that can be taken to create mentally healthy workplaces in which you can support your colleagues.

Also look out for the results of our mental health survey, due out shortly, which like Michael’s story above will bring to life how workplaces can support people working in the sector, as well as assessing the current wellbeing landscape of our industry.

This event is worth 15 points in the PRCA CPD Programme.
