Britain’s departure from the EU is set to have implications for businesses of all sizes and sectors around the UK, across a range of different policy areas.

Time spent thinking through the changes that Brexit may bring to your business could yield real dividends in future.

There are already steps that individuals and businesses can take to start planning ahead, and PRCA Borderlands & North East and CIPR North East, together with North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), North East England Chamber of Commerce and Square One Law, have come together to provide practical advice and guidance to support PR practitioners to be prepared for Brexit, so they can strategically advise the organisations they serve.

The event takes place at PROTO (Gateshead) on Friday 4 October and speakers include:

Colin Bell, North East LEP, Business Growth Director

Colin Bell is Business Growth Director at the North East LEP and holds an MSc in Small Business Development from Teesside University.

Following an MBO in 2009, Colin was a director and owner of business growth and business improvement software business Winning Moves Ltd where he was instrumental in scaling the business from a turnover of £400k to £2.7 million. This included the development and delivery of business growth programmes such as Growth Accelerator, Great200Leaders, the Masters level and accredited Winning Leaders Academy and Optimising Business Technology.

Following a period of fast growth in 2013, Winning Moves was sold and Colin spent two years as part of the acquirer’s senior management team to support the integration of the businesses.

In addition, Colin designed and delivered several sector development tools which have been used under license in more than 20 countries.

Arlen Pettitt, Knowledge Development Manager, North East Chamber of Commerce

Arlen joined the Chamber in 2016 after spending ten years as a policy and communications consultant. As Knowledge Development Manager he is responsible for helping members access the information and insight they need to make their businesses a success through skills, knowledge and information events and the Chamber Knowledge Hub. Alongside the Chamber’s policy and international trade teams, he plays a role in helping the Chamber’s 3,000 members prepare for Brexit.

Neil Warwick, Manager at Square One Law

Neil is part of the management team at Square One Law, an entrepreneurial law firm which aims to offer a more dynamic approach to client care.

Neil has represented the private sector for a number of years at both the Programme Executive Group and the Local Management Committee of the Department for Local Government and Communities, assisting in the oversight of the European Regional Development Funds for the North East and now represents North East LEP at the newly formed Programme Executive Group for ESIF.
