Summary:

Proud to be – Black and LGBTQ+ in Black History Month and all-year-round

Event Type: Group Event

Event Overview

Proud voices from the Black LGBTQ+ community will discuss why it is important to celebrate Black LGBTQ+ lives in Black History Month and also the other 11 months of the year. We will also dig into what authentic representation looks like including ongoing debates around blackfishing, in particular following the release of Jesy Nelson/Nicki Minaj’s recent single, and using Blaccents to gain popularity, as well as the fallout within Netfix as an organisation and with viewers over Dave Chappelle’s recent special The Closer. The panel will also share parts of their personal stories and encourage the audience to ask questions or share their experiences.

Host: Emma Wright (PRCA LGBTQ+ Co-chair)

Speakers:

  • International swimmer Michael Gunning
  • Grime artist Nate Ethan Watson
  • Head of Social Impact at Lucky Generals Chloe Davies
  • Former Social Mission Manager, Brands on a Mission, Titi Kabi
