Event Overview

2021: The Year of Burnout – Stepping up to protect the PR industry’s mental health

3rd Annual World Mental Health Day event brought to you by PRCA, CIPR, Edelman, and Opinium

Sunday 10th October is World Mental Health Day and the PRCA, CIPR, Edelman and  Opinium are partnering to host a special virtual event. Health and wellbeing has been centre stage for the past 18 months, but as we grapple with the “return to work” in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic it is clear the toll on our mental health in particular has been significant.

The CIPR and PRCA  launched their first joint campaign to inspire public relations and communications professionals to take positive action on mental health across the industry.

Launched ahead of Global Listening Day, the pan-industry 'Heard Mentality' campaign urges leaders to hear the concerns of colleagues and encourages team leaders to hold constructive talks with their team members or peers on mental health.

Edelman Trust Barometer data shows that 1 in 5 people globally, say they have left their job in the last six months, or plan to do so in the next six months. 43% of people say their employer is not doing well on taking the issue of employee burnout seriously and actively taking steps to prevent it. And of those who feel that their employer isn’t addressing burnout, 25% have quit, or will quit their job in the next six months.

So, what are PR businesses, leaders and advocates getting right and what is still missing? Join us for the reveal of the 2021 Opinium Mental Health in PR survey results, hear from award-winning broadcaster, author and mental health advocate Gemma Cairney on her own experiences, and join a panel of leading communications and mental health speakers for a panel discussion to unpack the issue, progress so far and what’s needed next.
